My musical journey really kicked off when I was about fourteen, when I first picked up the bass. Since then, I’ve developed my influences and expanded my understanding of how to use them to create my own unique sound. My key inspirations include Cliff Burton from Metallica, whose distinctive approach to composing metal on bass really shaped the way I think about the instrument. I’m also heavily influenced by the Black and Doom Metal scenes, not only for their intensity but for the wide range of sub-genres and dynamics that exist within them.
The first year of my music course at Petroc also propelled my interest in music production and digital music. Lessons in Logic Pro, studio recording techniques, and access to synthesisers, MIDI software, and other digital tools opened up a whole new creative world for me. A big part of this has been multi-track recording sessions with my band at college, where we’ve used the recording booths and experimented with different microphone placements and recording methods to get the best possible sound. Working hands-on with Logic Pro to mix and structure these tracks has helped me understand the whole process from both a performer’s and a producer’s perspective.
